The home was built by the Pannill family in 1929. William Pannill was the CEO of American Furniture, at one time the largest furniture manufacturer in the Southeast. This 20,000-square-foot home is on the National Historic Registry and sits on 56 acres in the Blue Ridge Mountain foothills of Virginia.
The foyer has a grand staircase and opens to the first of 3 living areas. The home has formal and casual dining rooms. The full kitchen has an oversized island, double ovens, and a butler's pantry with wine cooler and ice maker. A wood-paneled library with barrel ceiling and built-in bookshelves provides a quiet retreat.
There are 7 bedrooms — 6 with king beds and 1 with two singles. Six bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms, many with original vintage tile work. The master suite features a marble fireplace, crystal chandelier, and a spa bathroom with jetted tub and dual showerheads.
The lower level features a private home theater with reclining seats and projector, a pub-style room with stone fireplace and stained glass windows, and a game room with pool table.
Outdoors, the estate offers a covered stone patio with comfortable seating, a fire pit with Adirondack chairs, a gas grill, and formal terraced gardens with brick walkways, stone pergolas, and manicured hedges. The 56-acre grounds include a tree-lined private driveway and rolling hills.
A housekeeper is on the premises during your stay to ensure everything is perfect. Julie is available to help coordinate events, weddings, and special occasions. The estate comfortably accommodates families, retreats, reunions, and intimate celebrations.
